New Year's

We have traditions around here although they seem to morph over the years.

My husband plays in a big band.

(the ex played in a rock and roll band)

So I am used to being home alone on New Year's. Growing up I don't remember doing anything special for new year's but my parents are not social and not drinkers so I am not surprised. When I was old enough to babysit that's what I did. Even after I was married I babysat instead of sitting home along.

So Len is gone, playing at a hotel in Avalon, at the beach. I went with him for a few years but it really isn’t much fun. Now I stay with my girls. The 20 year old is going to a house party and staying overnight. Daughter4 and I are going to a friend’s, down the street. There will be other ten year olds there, so everyone will be happy. I made a fruit salad to take along. Yum. Grapes, pineapple, cantelope and mandarin oranges.I hope to stay awake to see the big ball and then come home to my dogs and my lovely bed.

Usually the Christmas things are put away on New Year's Day, and the snowmen come out. But since we don’t go back to school until Jan. 5 I will wait until Saturday to get things moved.

Tomorrow there is a big parade in Philadelphia. It is comprised of the Mummer’s. We pretend we don’t like it, and we can’t understand why people are attracted to the bad music and silly costumes and badly executed dance routines. But we will put the tv on throughout the day to see what is going on.

Tomorrow is a special birthday party. Last year I was in the delivery room when the birthday girl arrived. So some traditions have changed! I used to wonder what to make for dinner. Seems like we should have something special to start the year off right. Now we will birthday cake!

Have a wonderful Happy New Year’s! And…..RABBIT!
